Outboard, pod, or inboard?
Outboards are the flexible default — portable at the small end, powerful at the big end, easy to service. Pods keep the transom clean and the cabin quiet on sailboats and launches. Inboards suit displacement hulls and repowers that keep their shaft. Where the motor mounts decides most of what follows.
How much power do I need?
Electric kilowatts move boats further than gas horsepower labels suggest, especially at displacement speeds. A dinghy is happy with 1 kW, a daysailer with 3, and repowers scale from there. Skip the guesswork — send us your boat's length, weight, and use, and we'll size it honestly.
Which ecosystem?
Small portables come with their own batteries. Bigger systems are platform decisions: ePropulsion's 96V eSSA family (X-Series, I-Series, POD) shares the G-Series battery and controls, while Torqeedo's Cruise line connects through TorqLink. Picking the ecosystem first makes every later purchase easier.

Electric propulsion FAQ
Are electric motors powerful enough to replace gas?
For most boats under displacement or moderate planing loads, yes — and the instant torque makes them feel stronger off the line than their ratings suggest. What changes is energy storage: gas carries more energy per pound, so range planning matters more. We'll tell you plainly if your use case isn't a fit yet.
How long do the batteries last on the water?
Speed is everything. At low displacement speeds most setups run for hours; wide-open throttle can cut that to a fraction. Every motor we sell reports live range on its display or app, so you're never guessing out there.
Are these motors okay in saltwater?
Yes — these are marine motors designed for salt and fresh water alike. Like any saltwater gear, a freshwater rinse and healthy anodes extend their life. Corrosion protection details are on each product page.
Who services and supports these motors?

What about the battery — is it included?
Portables like the Spirit and Travel lines include or integrate their own battery. Larger systems — Navy, Cruise, eSSA X/I/POD — are sized with a separate bank, which is where most of the system design lives. That's the part we love helping with.
