Planning guide

Where MG fits, in three questions

What the Master LV does, who MG suits, and how a build comes together.

1

What does the Master LV do?

It's the brain of an MG lithium bank — the master controller that monitors the batteries, manages protection, and connects the bank to the rest of your system. The 400, 600, and 1000A ratings cover everything from big house banks to genuinely high-power 24V and 48V installations.

2

Who is MG for?

Builds where the electrical system is core infrastructure: heavy-cruising sailboats, workboats, expedition vehicles, and off-grid plants that cycle hard every day. If your bank is a weekend house battery, friendlier-priced options serve well; if it's mission-critical, MG's engineering depth starts to pay.

3

How do I build around it?

MG systems are designed projects, not parts-bin builds — batteries, Master controller, and integration with your inverter and charging all get spec'd together. That's a conversation we enjoy: bring your loads and your boat or rig, and we'll help map the system end to end.

Good to know

MG Energy FAQ

What exactly is the MG Master LV?

The master battery management controller for MG's low-voltage lithium systems. It supervises the bank, manages protection and switching, and provides the connection point between the batteries and your charging and inverter equipment — available in 400A, 600A, and 1000A ratings for 24–48V banks.

Does MG gear work with Victron systems?

MG designs its systems to integrate with the wider marine-electrical ecosystem, and MG-plus-Victron is a well-trodden combination in high-end builds. The integration details depend on your exact lineup — tell us what's on board and we'll confirm the wiring and comms path before anything is ordered.

Can Blue Marine source MG batteries and other components?

Yes — the Master LV is what we keep on the shelf, and we'll help you spec and source the rest of an MG system around it. MG builds are quotation projects by nature, so the consultation is where every one of them starts.

Is MG overkill for my boat?

Maybe — and we'll say so. For most weekend house banks, Epoch or Victron batteries deliver superb value. MG earns its price where systems run hard daily, currents are big, and downtime is expensive. We sell both ends of that spectrum, so you'll get an honest recommendation.
