ePropulsion X-Series: the complete electric outboard system
The X12, X20, and X40 sit at the heavy end of electric outboard power — 12 to 40 kW on ePropulsion's 96V eSSA platform. Everything you need to build the system is on this page: the motor, the G-Series battery and charging, controls, wiring, and the install hardware.

Everything else your X-Series needs
The motor is one piece. These are the energy, control, wiring, and hardware components that make up a full 96V eSSA system — all on the eSSA platform, all here. Not sure what your build needs? Book a consultation and we'll spec the whole list.
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|

Each part links to its product page for full specs and current pricing. The big power-distribution components are installer-grade — we'll tell you which ones your build actually needs.
How to spec an X-Series, in three questions
Power, shaft length, and how you'll store and charge the battery.
How much power?
Match the motor to your hull and the gas outboard you're replacing. The X12 (12 kW) suits pontoons and lighter cruisers; the X20 (20 kW) covers heavier hulls; the X40 (40 kW) is for large or commercial boats and twin setups. When in doubt, size up — an electric motor loafing at part throttle is far more efficient.
Which shaft length?
Measure your transom height. As a rule of thumb, a 15" transom takes the short shaft, 20" takes the long, and a 25" (XL) transom — common on sailboats and tall-transom cruisers — needs the XL. The cavitation plate should sit just below the hull bottom.
How much battery & charging?
Size the G-Series bank to your range, then add shore charging (G-Series charger) and/or solar (96V MPPT). We'll work the energy budget with you.

X-Series FAQ
What do I need besides the motor?
At minimum: a G-Series 96V battery and a way to charge it (the G-Series shore charger and/or the 96V MPPT for solar), plus the controls/display and the eSSA cables and bus box to wire it together. Larger or AC-equipped boats add power-distribution components (DC-DC, inverter, distribution boxes, isolator, rectifier, EMS). The “Complete your system” table above lists every piece — we'll confirm exactly what your build needs.
What battery does the X-Series use?
The ePropulsion G-Series 96V LiFePO4 battery — 10.2 kWh (G102-100) or 23.5 kWh (G102-230). You can parallel packs for more range, and charge from shore or solar. Battery is sold separately so you can size the bank to your boat.
What is the eSSA platform?
eSSA is ePropulsion's 96V high-voltage architecture shared across the X-Series outboards, I-Series inboards, and POD drives. The higher system voltage means less current, smaller cabling, and a common ecosystem of batteries, charging, controls, and distribution.
How do I choose the shaft length?
Measure your transom height. Roughly: 15" transom = short shaft, 20" = long, 25" = XL. The anti-cavitation plate should sit just below the bottom of the hull. If you're between sizes or have a stepped transom, ask us and we'll confirm.
Can I run twin X-Series motors?
Yes — the X20 and X40 are commonly run as twins on larger hulls, sharing a 96V battery bank through the eSSA distribution components. We'll lay out the wiring, distribution, and battery sizing for a twin install.
What warranty comes with the X-Series?
Covered by ePropulsion's 24-month limited warranty (from delivery to the first end customer) against defects in materials and workmanship under normal recreational use with proper installation and maintenance. Commercial or professional use is covered by your local statutory warranty instead. Blue Marine is an authorized ePropulsion dealer and will help with any claim.
