House bank or motor pack?
Propulsion packs are engineered for their motor family — connectors, comms, and charge profiles included — so match the pack to the motor and you're done. House banks are open design territory: chemistry, capacity, and BMS choices are yours, and that's where our advisors earn their keep.
Which voltage?
12V remains the house standard for most boats and RVs; 24V and 48V cut current and cable size on bigger systems; 96V belongs to the eSSA propulsion world. If you're building from scratch, higher voltage often pays off — if you're upgrading, matching what you have is usually smarter.
Internal or external BMS?
SuperPack batteries protect themselves internally — connect and go. Victron's Smart and NG lines deliberately use an external BMS so the whole system — chargers, inverter, alternator — responds before a cell gets hurt. Bigger and more integrated favors external.

Can I swap my AGM bank for lithium?
Usually yes, and it's one of the best upgrades a boat or RV can get — more usable capacity at half the weight. But lithium wants the right charge profile and a plan for alternator charging, so the swap is a small system project, not just a battery purchase. We'll walk your setup with you before you buy.
LiFePO4 or lithium-ion — what's the difference?
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is the house-bank standard: very stable, long cycle life, happy at partial charge. Some propulsion packs use higher-energy NMC chemistry to pack more punch per pound — the motor maker engineers the pack and BMS around it, so with propulsion packs you simply match the pack to the motor.
Do these batteries need a BMS?
Every lithium battery here is BMS-protected — the question is where it lives. SuperPack and motor packs have it built in. Victron Smart and NG banks use an external BMS that can command your chargers, inverter, and loads — stronger protection for bigger systems.
What about charging in the cold?
Lithium shouldn't be charged below freezing — a good BMS blocks it before damage happens. If your boat or rig lives somewhere cold, look at heated batteries like Epoch's line, which warm themselves before accepting charge, or plan the bank's location and charging around the season.
Can I use a propulsion pack as a house battery?
We don't recommend it. Motor packs are engineered around their motor's connectors, comms, and charger — not house loads and charge sources. Run the house on a house bank and let the motor pack do its one job well; your wallet and your warranty will both thank you.
