Torqeedo Travel XP 5 HP Electric Outboard
Free shipping over $49
60-day hassle-free returns
The Torqeedo Travel XP (1162-00) is the strongest motor in the Travel line, delivering 1,600 W of input power (1,400 W shaft output, ~5 HP-equivalent) for about 44% more thrust than the standard Travel. Quiet, clean, and emission-free, it is an excellent electric alternative to a 5 HP gas outboard for dinghies, tenders, daysailers, and small powerboats — with an onboard GPS computer, IP67 waterproofing, and tiller control.
Battery not included. The Travel XP is designed for the Torqeedo Travel Battery XP (recommended for full output); it also runs on the standard Travel Battery at reduced output. Batteries are sold separately.

- Available in Short (S) and Long (L) shaft versions.
How to Measure Your Transom Height & Choose Your Shaft Length
Picking the right shaft length is the single most important fitment decision on any outboard. It comes down to your boat's transom height — if the shaft is too short the propeller ventilates (sucks air) and loses thrust; too long and it adds unnecessary drag.
- Measure your transom height. With the boat level, measure straight down from the top of the transom (where the motor clamps) to the lowest point of the hull/keel at the centerline.
- Match it to the shaft length. Per Torqeedo's own guidance, a transom of about 15 in (38 cm) calls for the Short (S) shaft; about 20 in (51 cm) calls for the Long (L) shaft.
- When you're between sizes, size up. A slightly long shaft runs fine; a too-short shaft will cavitate.
| Shaft option | Shaft length | Fits transom up to | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short (S) | 24.6 in (62.5 cm) | ~15 in (38 cm) | Inflatables, tenders, small dinghies |
| Long (L) | 29.5 in (75 cm) | ~20 in (51 cm) | Daysailers, keelboats, deeper transoms |
