Choosing guide

How to choose, in three questions

Portable vs fixed, how much power, and whether you sail.

1

Portable or fixed-mount?

The eLite and Spirit motors clamp on and lift off — ideal for dinghies, tenders, and day-sailers. The Navy Evo and Pod Drive Evo are fixed or through-hull drives for bigger boats and sailboats using electric as a primary auxiliary.

2

How much power?

1.5 HP eLite for the lightest craft; 3 HP Spirit 1.0 for dinghies and small sailboats; 6 HP+ Spirit 2.0, Navy, and Pod Drive for heavier boats and longer passages.

3

Do you sail? Look at Evo.

Spirit 1.0 Evo, Navy Evo, and Pod Drive Evo hydrogenerate — under sail the spinning propeller turns the motor into a generator and puts range back in the battery.

Good to know

ePropulsion FAQ

Which ePropulsion is best for a dinghy or tender?

For most dinghies and tenders, the eLite (1.5 HP) or Spirit 1.0 Plus (3 HP) are the picks — light, clamp-on, and simple. Heavier tenders and small fishing boats step up to the Spirit 2.0.

Built-in, removable, or external battery — what's the difference?

The eLite has a built-in battery; the Spirit motors use a removable pack you can lift off and swap; the Navy and Pod Drive run off an external E-Series 48V bank you size for range. More external capacity means longer runs between charges.

What is hydrogeneration?

On the Evo models, sailing spins the propeller, which drives the motor as a generator and recharges the battery — a real range-extender for sailboats on passage.

How far will one go on a charge?

It depends on throttle and battery size, but half-throttle roughly quadruples range versus full throttle. A Spirit 1.0 (1276 Wh) runs about an hour flat-out and several hours at cruise; external-battery Navy and Pod setups go much further. We're happy to estimate for your boat.

Can I get remote (helm) steering?

Yes on the Evo models — the Spirit 1.0 Evo Remote Kit, and Evo controls for Navy and Pod Drive, add top- or side-mount remote steering instead of a tiller.
