ePropulsion eSSA EMS Controller
The eSSA EMS Controller is the brain of a complete ePropulsion eSSA energy system. It manages the flow of energy in and out of the system in real time — intelligently regulating how much power is generated and consumed, and coordinating the battery bank, charging sources, propulsion, and onboard loads so they work together as one. For larger, multi-source builds (multiple batteries, solar, shore/genset charging, AC and DC loads), it's what keeps everything balanced, protected, and easy to oversee.
What it does
- Whole-system energy management — schedules and controls the eSSA energy equipment, regulating power generation and consumption across the system.
- Real-time monitoring & control — see and manage system status live, with control logic that protects the battery bank and balances sources and loads.
- Flexible integration — multiple communication interfaces plus digital and analog inputs/outputs let it talk to ePropulsion devices and external in-house energy equipment.
- 10-inch touch HMI — human-machine interaction through a large touch panel for setup and at-a-glance oversight.
- Low draw — runs on the 9–30V control supply at just 2.4 W maximum.
Pairs with the Pre-Charge Unit
On high-voltage systems with several connected devices, the bus carries significant capacitance. The companion Pre-Charge Unit safely connects and disconnects those high-voltage links — charging the capacitors through a relay-and-resistor circuit with a variable time delay to avoid damaging voltage spikes and inrush. Together with the EMS Controller it makes powering a large eSSA system up and down safe and controlled. Ask us whether your build needs the Pre-Charge Unit alongside the controller.

Where it fits
The EMS Controller is an installer-grade component for larger and more complex eSSA installs — think multi-battery banks, solar plus shore/genset charging, and combined propulsion and house loads on X-Series, I-Series, or POD Drive eSSA systems. Most single-motor, single-battery setups don't need it; bigger systems benefit from its central coordination and protection. Not sure whether your project calls for one? We're happy to map out the right architecture with you.
Warranty
2-year (24-month) ePropulsion limited warranty from date of invoice for the first end customer, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use with proper installation and maintenance — free repair or replacement of covered parts (claims within 6 months of discovering the issue). Installation, removal, transport, and similar costs aren't covered, and commercial or professional use falls under your local statutory warranty rather than this limited warranty. After the warranty period, ePropulsion-authorized service partners can still help with low-cost maintenance. Blue Marine is an authorized ePropulsion dealer and will help you through any warranty claim.
Support
Designing a larger eSSA system is worth getting right the first time. Schedule an online consultation with one of our ABYC-certified advisors and we'll size the controller, battery bank, charging, and protection together.
