How to choose
Three questions narrow it down.
How big is the boat?
Travel models (Ultralight to XP, ~1–5 HP) cover kayaks, dinghies, tenders, and small-sailboat aux. Cruise models (6–20 HP) move sailboats up to 35 ft and motorboats up to 6 tons.
Tiller or remote steering?
Most Travel and Cruise motors come as a hands-on tiller ("T") or a remote / console version ("R"). The Travel XP Remote and Cruise R models steer from a wheel or side-mount throttle.
Battery built in or separate?
Travel motors use a clip-on lithium pack (some include it, some sell it alongside). Cruise motors run on a separate Power 24-3500 or Power 48-5000 bank you size to your range.

Torqeedo FAQ
Quick answers before you buy.
What's the difference between Travel and Cruise?
Travel motors are lightweight, portable outboards with a clip-on battery — great for kayaks, dinghies, tenders, and as sailboat auxiliaries up to about 5 HP. Cruise motors are higher-power (6 to 20 HP-equivalent) and run on a separate Power battery bank, for sailboats up to 35 ft and motorboats up to 6 tons.
What does the R or T in the model name mean?
R is the remote / console-steered version (wheel or side-mount throttle); T is the tiller version you steer by hand. Pick T for simple direct control, R when you want to steer from a helm.
How do I know which battery and charger I need?
Travel motors use a clip-on Travel battery; Cruise motors use a separate Power 24-3500 or Power 48-5000 bank plus a matching charger. The right pack and charger depend on the exact motor and how far you run — tell us your boat and we'll spec it.
Are Torqeedo motors good for saltwater?
Yes — they're built for salt and fresh water and use sacrificial anodes you can replace. Rinse with fresh water after salt use, the same habit you'd keep with any outboard.
