The Multi RS is Victron's next-generation 48V inverter/charger — 6,000 VA of output at roughly a third of the weight of a comparable low-frequency unit. High-frequency design brings it in at 24.7 lb (11.2 kg), it runs quietly, and you manage it from the built-in display, over Bluetooth with VictronConnect, or through a GX device on VE.Can. It's the non-solar sibling of the Multi RS Solar: the same inverter/charger platform without built-in charge controllers, so you pair it with whatever PV fits your system — DC-coupled MPPTs or AC-coupled PV inverters. It ships as a 230 V / 50 Hz unit and can be configured for 240 V / 60 Hz — so alongside European-spec systems and 230/240V off-grid builds, it works in US installs too, and pairs with a Victron Autotransformer for 120/240V split-phase.
Who the Multi RS fits
- 230V off-grid homes and cabins — a light, wall-mounted 48V/6kVA core for a solar-plus-storage build, with Dynamic ESS support where a grid connection exists.
- European-built boats and imported rigs — keeps a 230V AC side running from a 48V bank, with shore charging and PowerAssist for small marina pedestals.
- US 240V and split-phase systems — configured for 240 V / 60 Hz and paired with a Victron Autotransformer, the Multi RS delivers balanced US 120/240V split-phase — the same proven pairing used when refitting European-built boats for US power.
- Grid-connected starts, batteries later — it can run as a direct grid connection without batteries, so a system can be commissioned first and storage added when budget allows.
- Generator-backed systems — a dedicated generator mode minimizes run-hours and supplements the genset from the battery when loads spike.
What stands out
Light enough to mount anywhere
At 24.7 lb (11.2 kg), the Multi RS weighs about a third of a comparable low-frequency inverter/charger. One person can hang it on a bulkhead or cabin wall without help, and the 18.2 × 16.7 × 5.0 in (462 × 425 × 127 mm) footprint keeps it shallow.
Three operating modes
Backup mode rides through grid outages; off-grid mode runs with no grid at all; generator mode controls a genset to minimize run-hours and adds battery power when demand exceeds what the generator can deliver.
PowerControl and PowerAssist
Set a maximum shore, grid, or generator current and the Multi RS keeps the total draw under it — throttling battery charging first (PowerControl) and, when loads spike past the limit, adding inverter power from the battery in parallel (PowerAssist).
Bring your own solar — DC- or AC-coupled
Add SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers on the DC side, or AC-couple PV inverters on the output — the Multi RS regulates AC-coupled PV automatically with built-in frequency-shift power control.
Display, Bluetooth, and GX integration
The integrated display reads battery, inverter, and AC parameters at a glance; VictronConnect over Bluetooth adds historical trend data, configuration, and quick firmware updates. For full-system monitoring, VRM, and advanced ESS functions (zero-export, backup mode for critical loads), connect a GX device such as a Cerbo GX MK2 or Nucleo GX via VE.Can. On this unit the VE.Direct port is dedicated to a GlobalLink for standalone remote monitoring, and VE.Smart Networking isn't supported.
Three-phase support (no parallel)
Three units — one per phase — build a three-phase system. Single-phase parallel operation is not supported, so size the single unit to your peak loads.

Good to know before you order
- Output is 230 VAC / 50 Hz by default and configurable to 240 VAC / 60 Hz for the US market (single-phase). For US 120/240V split-phase, pair it with a Victron Autotransformer — it creates the balanced split-phase output and handles the neutral-ground bond. A MultiPlus-II 2x120V is the single-box alternative.
- GX connection is VE.Can only; the VE.Direct port is reserved for a GlobalLink.
- Parallel operation isn't supported — one unit per phase, sized for the job.
