The Victron Lithium Battery Smart is a LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery with built-in Bluetooth, cell balancing, and cell monitoring - the building block of a modern marine, RV, or off-grid house bank. Available in 12.8V and 25.6V, in capacities from 100 Ah to 200 Ah, it can be wired in series, parallel, or series/parallel to build 12V, 24V, or 48V banks up to 20 batteries.
Important - this is a system battery, not a drop-in: Victron Lithium Smart batteries do not contain an internal BMS. They have integrated cell balancing and monitoring whose cables must connect to a separate Victron BMS, which protects the cells and disconnects loads or chargers on a cell over/under-voltage or temperature alarm. Choose a BMS to suit your system (see "Choosing a BMS" below) - we're glad to help you spec it.

Why lithium iron phosphate, and why Smart
Rugged - thrives on partial charging
Unlike lead-acid, an LFP battery does not need to be fully recharged and isn't damaged by sitting partially charged - service life even improves slightly under partial charge. Add a wide operating temperature range, low internal resistance, and high efficiency, and LFP is the chemistry of choice for demanding marine and off-grid use.
Efficient and light
92% round-trip efficiency (vs ~80% for lead-acid, and far less in the upper state-of-charge range), and up to 70% savings in both space and weight versus an equivalent lead-acid bank.
Long cycle life
Rated for 2,500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, 3,000 cycles at 70% DoD, and 5,000 cycles at 50% DoD (to 80% remaining capacity), with under 1% capacity loss per 100 cycles.
Built-in Bluetooth
Monitor individual cell voltages, temperature, and alarm status right in the free VictronConnect app - Instant Readout shows the key data on the device list without even connecting, which makes spotting a cell imbalance easy.
Integrated cell balancing and monitoring
Every battery has built-in balancing and monitoring; the daisy-chained M8 connector cables run to your Victron BMS, which handles protection and load/charge disconnection.
Scales to a real bank
Series, parallel, and series/parallel wiring builds 12V, 24V, or 48V banks - up to 20 batteries per BMS (up to ~102 kWh), and up to 5 BMS units paralleled. (For 48V, Victron recommends two 24V batteries in series over four 12V batteries to minimize balancing time.)

Choosing a BMS
These batteries require one of Victron's BMS units. A quick guide:
- SmallBMS (with pre-alarm) - 12, 24, or 48V systems without an inverter/charger.
- VE.Bus BMS V2 - 12, 24, or 48V systems with a MultiPlus/Quattro inverter/charger and a GX device.
- Lynx Smart BMS (500A or 1000A) - 12, 24, or 48V systems wanting digital integration and a built-in safety contactor to disconnect loads/inverters; common on yachts and RVs.
- Smart BMS CL 12/100 - 12V systems with an alternator.
- Smart BMS 12/200 - 12V systems with an alternator plus DC loads and an inverter/charger.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a drop-in lithium battery?
No. Victron Lithium Smart batteries are system batteries with no internal BMS - they require an external Victron BMS, which handles cell protection and disconnects loads/chargers on an alarm. This gives a more robust, fully monitored system than a self-contained drop-in, but it does mean the BMS and wiring are part of the install.
Which BMS do I need?
It depends on your system voltage and what's connected - see "Choosing a BMS" above. In short: SmallBMS for simple systems, VE.Bus BMS V2 for systems with a MultiPlus/Quattro and GX, Lynx Smart BMS for integrated systems wanting a safety contactor, and the Smart BMS CL 12/100 or 12/200 for 12V systems with an alternator.
Can I charge it in cold weather?
Charge only between +5 C and +50 C. Discharging is fine down to -20 C, but charging a lithium battery below freezing damages the cells - set your charge sources accordingly, and consider a temperature sensor in the system.
Can I build a 48V bank?
Yes. Wire batteries in series/parallel for 12V, 24V, or 48V. For 48V, Victron recommends two 25.6V batteries in series rather than four 12.8V batteries, to reduce balancing time.
What warranty does it come with?
A 3-year limited warranty from Victron Energy on lithium batteries (maximum 42 months from the Victron invoice date), per Victron's 2025 Limited Warranty Policy - note this is shorter than the 5-year warranty on Victron power products, and the 10-year extension does not apply to batteries.
