Note: This is a 230V / 50Hz (European standard) model with a single-phase output, most often used as a like-for-like replacement on a European-built boat. For US-standard 120/240V split phase, configure the MultiPlus for 60Hz and pair it with a Victron Autotransformer also set to 60Hz - the inverter supplies 230V/60Hz and the autotransformer splits it into 120/240V. If you're buying new for a US system, the US MultiPlus-II 120V or MultiPlus-II 2x120V are usually the simpler choice.
The Victron MultiPlus is a true sine wave inverter, an adaptive multi-stage battery charger, and a high-speed AC transfer switch in a single compact enclosure. Connect one shore-power or generator inlet, your battery bank, and your loads to one device - and when the AC source drops, the MultiPlus takes over the load in under 20 milliseconds, so connected electronics keep running without interruption.
This 230V / 50Hz listing spans a very wide range - from the compact 2 kVA up to a 20 kW single unit, at 12V, 24V, or 48V DC. Choose your model from the variant selector above.
Who the MultiPlus is built for
- European-built boats and RVs - a like-for-like 230V / 50Hz inverter/charger for shore-power charging and inverting house AC loads.
- Off-grid homes and cabins - the 3 kVA and 5 kVA models suit most off-grid builds; the 20 kW model anchors a large off-grid or backup system.
- Energy storage and self-consumption - pair with MPPT solar or a grid-tie PV inverter, and use the optional external current sensor to optimize self-consumption.
- Installers and DIYers - VE.Bus communication, VEConfigure, and parallel/three-phase scaling.
Why this is the MultiPlus
Inverter, charger, and transfer switch in one box
A low-distortion pure sine wave inverter, a smart adaptive charger, and an integrated AC transfer switch. One AC input feeds the unit - it charges from shore or generator when AC is present and inverts from the battery when it isn't. (If you need two AC inputs with automatic source selection, look at the Quattro instead.)
No-break AC output and two AC outputs
The main output rides through any source loss in under 20 milliseconds, fast enough that computers and other electronics keep running. The second (auxiliary) output is live only when an AC source is present - so non-critical loads like a water heater can't drain the battery overnight (available on 3 kVA models and larger).
PowerControl and PowerAssist
Set a current limit on the AC input and the MultiPlus uses only the leftover capacity for charging, so the inlet breaker never trips (PowerControl). When a peak load exceeds the inlet rating, it supplements from the battery and recharges once the peak passes (PowerAssist).
Adaptive multi-stage charging - lithium and lead-acid friendly
A four-stage charge profile (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with adaptive-charge software and an included battery temperature sensor, fully programmable for lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded banks. House-battery charge current ranges from 35 A up to 250 A by model. The 12V and 24V models also include a 4 A starter-battery trickle output.
Scales with your system: parallel and three phase
Up to six units run in parallel (the 20 kW model parallels with an external AC transfer switch - see Victron's application manual), and three units configure for three phase.
Monitor and control from anywhere
Add a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX and your system is visible in the free VRM Portal from your phone, tablet, or laptop. Configure on-site with VEConfigure (via the MK3-USB interface) or the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth (via the VE.Bus Smart dongle). Read: Is the MultiPlus Smart?

Installation and sizing help
Wiring a MultiPlus into a marine or off-grid system isn't plug-and-play. Battery cable sizing, fusing, and grounding all need to match the model you choose - and the 20 kW model has specific parallel and transfer-switch requirements. Two free resources to start with:
- Victron Wiring Unlimited - the canonical reference for sizing the DC and AC sides of a Victron system.
- Our AWG to Metric Conversion chart.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this 230V unit on US 120/240V power?
Not directly - its output is 230V / 50Hz (European standard). To run on US power, configure the MultiPlus for 60Hz and pair it with a Victron Autotransformer also configured for 60Hz, which converts the 230V/60Hz output into US-standard 120/240V split phase. For a new US system, the US MultiPlus-II 120V or MultiPlus-II 2x120V models are usually simpler.
What's the difference between the MultiPlus and the MultiPlus-II?
The MultiPlus-II adds ESS features - built-in anti-islanding, an external current-sensor option, and grid-tie country approvals. For a new grid-parallel or ESS install, the MultiPlus-II is the current generation; the MultiPlus remains a strong choice for marine, mobile, and standard off-grid systems.
What does the MultiPlus Compact mean?
The 2 kVA model in this listing is the MultiPlus Compact - a slimmer enclosure for tighter installs. It's a full MultiPlus electrically, but does not include the second AC output or auxiliary output found on the 3 kVA and larger models.
Is it lithium battery compatible?
Yes. The charger supports custom voltage and current profiles for LiFePO4 and other lithium chemistries, and it communicates with Victron's VE.Bus BMS over the communication port.
What warranty does it come with?
A 5-year limited warranty from Victron Energy, upgradable to 10 years for an additional 10% of the purchase price. Blue Marine handles the warranty claim process for you. Email support@bluemarine.com.
