The TEMO 1000 is a French-designed electric outboard built around a simple idea: make it as easy to carry, stow, and deploy as possible without sacrificing useful power. At just under 35 lbs with the battery installed and 1,100W of output — the rough equivalent of a 3 horsepower gas motor — it's a serious motor in a genuinely portable package. On the Water First
Wesley rigged the TEMO 1000 onto the transom and put it through its paces. His first impression: immediate torque and real “pick up and go” the moment you open the throttle.
The throttle sensitivity is worth noting — the TEMO 1000 responds quickly, more so than some other electric outboards Wesley has tested, which takes a short adjustment period in close quarters. The swing weight also feels slightly different from a typical outboard because of how the motor and battery are balanced on the mount. Neither is a complaint, just a calibration note for your first run.
Overall operation is highly intuitive. Wesley's only minor preference after the water trial: a slightly longer tether for the magnetic kill switch. Easy to sort before you head out.

The 940 Wh battery gives you roughly one hour of continuous runtime at full output. In practice — where you're not running flat-out the entire time — you'll get meaningful range beyond that. The motor is well-suited to the torque demands of keelboats and heavier dinghies where thrust matters more than speed.
What Makes the TEMO 1000 Different
Removable Battery
The battery slides out cleanly. You can pull the battery before carrying the motor down the dock, breaking the load into two lighter pieces. It also means you can charge without bringing the whole motor to an outlet, and you can swap in a spare battery for double the runtime. In a marine environment where weight and convenience dictate what gear actually gets used, this matters.
The Mount
The TEMO 1000's mounting bracket lets you tilt the motor up clear of the water and also spin it completely sideways out of the way when you don't need it — without removal. On a small sailboat where the outboard is stowed while sailing and deployed at the dock, a motor that folds fully clear is a real convenience.
Portability
Under 35 lbs all-in. A comparable 3–4 HP gas outboard typically runs 40–55 lbs — before you add the fuel can. For any boat where the outboard gets carried on and off, that difference is felt on every trip.
Who It's For
The TEMO 1000 is best matched to day sailers and keelboats that need reliable marina propulsion, dinghies and tenders on larger boats where portability and easy stowage are the priority, and sailors who want the simplicity of electric with enough power to push a real boat in light wind or against current.
If you're covering long distances under power or need to plane a RIB, you need more battery capacity and output than the TEMO 1000 provides. But for the use case it's built for, it does the job cleanly.
