How to Integrate RuuviTag Sensors into a Victron System

Adding environmental sensors to your Victron power system opens up new ways to protect your equipment, monitor onboard conditions, and automate alerts—all wirelessly. That’s where RuuviTag Bluetooth sensors come in.

At Blue Marine, we use Ruuvi sensors to track temperature, humidity, pressure, and motion in battery bays, lockers, cabins, and even sail lockers. When paired with a Victron GX device like the Cerbo GX, you get real-time sensor data on your touchscreen, mobile app, or remote portal.

Here’s how to integrate RuuviTags into your Victron system.

What You’ll Need

  • Victron GX device with built-in Bluetooth
    – e.g., Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, or newer GX Touch units

  • Victron firmware 2.80 or later

  • One or more RuuviTag or RuuviTag Pro sensors

  • (Optional) Victron Remote Portal account (VRM)

Step-by-Step Integration Guide

Step 1: Update Your GX Device Firmware

Make sure your GX device is running firmware v2.80 or newer. You can update it by:

  1. Connecting to Wi-Fi or Ethernet

  2. Going to Settings > Firmware > Check for updates

  3. Allowing the device to reboot with the latest version

Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on the GX

Navigate to:
Settings > Bluetooth
Ensure Bluetooth is turned ON. The GX will begin scanning for Ruuvi sensors automatically.

Step 3: Place Your Ruuvi Sensor

Install your RuuviTag near the component or area you want to monitor:

  • Inside a battery compartment

  • Mounted on a bulkhead

  • Hanging in a cabin

  • Under a dodger or nav station

Use the Pro Sealed model for wet areas, or Pro Breathable for climate-sensitive locations like inverter bays or storage lockers.

Step 4: View Data in the GX UI

Go to Settings > IO > Bluetooth sensors
You’ll see a list of discovered sensors by their MAC address. Tap any sensor to rename it and view:

  • Temperature (°C/°F)

  • Humidity (% RH)

  • Barometric pressure (if available)

  • Motion (vibration-based presence)

These values can be displayed on the GX Touch screen or in the Remote Console view in the VRM Portal.

Remote Monitoring with Victron VRM

All sensor data can be uploaded to the Victron Remote Monitoring (VRM) Portal, giving you access from anywhere in the world.

  • Go to vrm.victronenergy.com

  • Log in to your GX-linked installation

  • Navigate to the “Ruuvi Sensors” tab to view logs, trends, and live data

  • Navigate to Settings > Alarm Rules to configure custom alarms using your Ruuvi sensor data
