The Victron Phoenix Smart IP43 Charger is a marine-grade smart battery charger built to live in the wet, vibrating, salt-air corner of a boat, an RV, or an off-grid bay where consumer chargers don't last a season. It pairs a 6-stage adaptive charge algorithm with native Bluetooth, VE.Direct, and VE.Smart Networking, so one charger keeps a house bank, a starter battery, or up to three independent banks topped up — and tells you exactly what it's doing from your phone.
Available from 13 A to 50 A at 12V, 24V, 36V, or 48V DC, with single-output, 1+1, and three-output variants in a single ruggedized aluminum enclosure. Charges lead-acid, AGM, gel, and lithium (LiFePO4) chemistries with full programmability over Bluetooth or VE.Direct.
Who the Phoenix Smart IP43 is built for
- Cruising boats and sailboats — a tough, low-corrosion charger that lives at the nav station or in the engine room and tops up your house bank, starter bank, and bow thruster bank from a single shore cord.
- RVs, vans, and overlanders — mount it once, run shore power into it, and let the 6-stage algorithm handle bulk, absorption, recondition, float, storage, and refresh automatically without micromanaging your batteries.
- Off-grid cabins and tiny homes — pair it with a Victron MPPT solar charger over VE.Smart Networking and the IP43 synchronizes its charge stages so solar and shore-power charging never fight each other.
- Specialty 36V and 48V systems — electric trolling motor packs, lift trucks, and 48V house banks now get a Victron-grade smart charger with the same Bluetooth and VE.Direct ecosystem as the rest of the line.
Why this is the Phoenix Smart IP43, not just another battery charger
Adaptive 6-stage charge algorithm built for real-world use
Bulk, absorption, recondition, float, storage, and a weekly refresh stage that briefly pulses back to absorption to prevent stratification and sulphation on flooded banks. Variable absorption time means short charges for shallow discharges and longer ones after a deep cycle. Storage mode drops to 13.2 V (12V model) after 24 hours without discharge to extend service life on batteries that sit for weeks at a time.
Up to three isolated battery outputs from one charger
The (3) models charge three completely independent banks — house, starter, and bow thruster, or three engine starters. The (1+1) models share full output with a primary bank plus a dedicated 4 A trickle output for a starter battery, so you never come back to a dead engine after a weekend at anchor. The single-output (1) models on the 36V and 48V variants drive one large bank with all available current.
BatterySafe mode protects expensive battery banks
A controlled rate-of-rise limit between 14.4 V and 15.0 V prevents excessive gassing during absorption — the leading cause of premature loss on flooded and AGM banks. Combined with temperature compensation (-16 / -32 / -48 / -64 mV/°C by voltage class), the Phoenix Smart IP43 keeps charge voltage matched to the actual state and temperature of the battery rather than running an aggressive fixed profile.
Native Bluetooth, VE.Direct, and VE.Smart Networking
Setup, monitor, and update the charger from the free VictronConnect app over Bluetooth. Wire it to a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX over VE.Direct for live data in the VRM Portal anywhere you have internet. Pair it with a SmartShunt, BMV-712, or Smart Battery Sense over VE.Smart Networking and the charger reads real battery voltage and temperature at the bank, not at the charger output, so cable drop and ambient heat stop fooling the charge profile.
Fully programmable for every chemistry, including lithium
Three pre-programmed algorithms (Normal, High, Li-ion) are selectable from the front panel. For everything else, full custom voltage and current profiles are configurable over Bluetooth or VE.Direct. LiFePO4 banks run on a 3-stage profile (bulk, absorption, storage) with BMS integration via the remote on/off port.
IP43-rated electronics in a marine-tough enclosure
Aluminum enclosure (blue RAL 5012), IP43 protection on the electronics, IP22 on the connection area, screw terminals up to 16 mm² (AWG 6), and a vibration spec to IEC 68-2-6 (10–150 Hz / 1.0 G). Built to be wall-mounted in a generator compartment, engine room, or RV electrical bay, not a tidy office.

Frequently asked questions
Will the Phoenix Smart IP43 charge lithium (LiFePO4) batteries?
Yes. The IP43 includes a pre-programmed Li-ion algorithm selectable from the front panel, and the charge profile is fully customizable over Bluetooth or VE.Direct. For BMS integration, wire the BMS load disconnect signal to the IP43's remote on/off port.
What's the difference between the (1+1), (3), and (1) variants?
(1+1) = one full-current output for your house bank plus a 4 A trickle output for a starter battery. (3) = three completely independent full-current outputs for three banks. The charger can only supply the rated maximum so in the case all three banks need charging at the same time the power will be divided. (1) = one full-current output only (the 36V and 48V variants are single-output).
Can I use it as a DC power supply on the bench?
Yes. Output voltage and current limit are user-configurable over Bluetooth or VE.Direct, so the IP43 doubles as a regulated DC supply for diagnostics or workshop use.
What battery chemistry will it charge?
Flooded lead-acid, AGM, gel, and lithium (LiFePO4). Three pre-programmed algorithms (Normal, High, Li-ion) cover the most common chemistries; everything else can be set with custom absorption, float, and storage voltages and currents.
Does the Phoenix Smart IP43 need a Cerbo GX?
Not strictly. Setup, monitoring, and configuration all work over Bluetooth from the VictronConnect app. A Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX adds remote access through the free VRM Portal and is recommended if you're combining the IP43 with an MPPT, inverter/charger, or BMV in a larger system.
Do the new 36V and 48V variants come with a starter trickle output?
No. The 36/15(1) and 48/13(1) models are single-output only. If you need a starter trickle, choose a 12V or 24V (1+1) variant.
Is the AC cord included?
No. The IP43 has an IEC 320 C14 inlet with a retainer clip and the mains cord is ordered separately.
What warranty does the Phoenix Smart IP43 come with?
A 5-year limited warranty from Victron Energy, upgradable to 10 years for an additional 10% of the purchase price. Blue Marine handles the warranty claim process for you. Email support@bluemarine.com.
