Note: This is a 230V / 50Hz (European standard) model with a single-phase output, most often used as a like-for-like replacement on a European-built boat. Two ways to run it on US power: (1) for US-standard 120/240V split phase, configure the MultiPlus-II for 60Hz and pair it with a Victron Autotransformer also set to 60Hz - the inverter supplies 230V/60Hz and the autotransformer splits it into 120/240V; or (2) if you're buying new for a US system, consider the US MultiPlus-II 120V or the MultiPlus-II 2x120V split-phase models instead.
The Victron MultiPlus-II is a true sine wave inverter, an adaptive multi-stage charger, and a high-speed AC transfer switch in one enclosure - with ESS-grade anti-islanding built in. It combines the original MultiPlus with the MultiGrid: all the inverter/charger functions plus an external current-sensor option, anti-islanding, and a long list of grid-code approvals for energy storage systems.
This 230V / 50Hz listing spans a wide range - 3 kVA to 15 kVA, at 12V, 24V, or 48V DC - so it covers everything from a compact boat system to a large off-grid or ESS install. Choose your model from the variant selector above.
Who the MultiPlus-II is built for
- European-built boats - a like-for-like 230V / 50Hz replacement inverter/charger for an existing system.
- Energy Storage Systems (ESS) - anti-islanding, external current-sensor support, and grid-code approvals make this the linchpin of a grid-parallel solar-plus-battery system.
- Off-grid homes and larger installs - the 8 kVA, 10 kVA, and 15 kVA models handle whole-home off-grid loads from a 48V bank.
- Installers and electricians - VE.Bus communication, VEConfigure, and parallel/three-phase scaling to very large systems.
Why this is the MultiPlus-II
Inverter, charger, and transfer switch in one box
A low-distortion pure sine wave inverter, a smart adaptive charger, and an integrated AC transfer switch. One AC input feeds the unit - it charges from shore or generator when AC is present and inverts from the battery when it isn't. (If you need two AC inputs with automatic source selection, look at the Quattro instead.)
No-break AC output and two AC outputs
The main output rides through any source loss in under 20 milliseconds, fast enough that computers and other electronics keep running. The second (auxiliary) output is live only when an AC source is present - so non-critical loads like a water heater can't discharge the battery overnight.
PowerControl and PowerAssist
Set a maximum shore or generator current and the unit uses only the leftover capacity for charging, so the inlet breaker never trips (PowerControl). When a peak load exceeds the inlet rating, it supplements from the battery and recharges once the peak passes (PowerAssist). An optional external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) extends these functions to shared circuits.
ESS-ready with built-in anti-islanding
Built-in anti-islanding and a long list of grid-code approvals (see Victron's certificates) let the MultiPlus-II run a Victron Energy Storage System - self-consumption, peak-shaving, or grid backup - alongside SmartSolar MPPTs or a grid-tie PV inverter and a lithium bank.
Adaptive multi-stage charging - lithium and lead-acid friendly
A four-stage charge profile (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with adaptive-charge software and an included battery temperature sensor, fully programmable for lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded banks. Maximum charge current ranges from 35 A (48/3000) up to 220 A (12/5000), by model.
Scales with your system: parallel and three phase
Up to six units run in parallel on a single VE.Bus for higher output, and three units configure for three phase - and up to six sets of three units for a 75 kW / 90 kVA system. Note: the 8 kVA, 10 kVA, and 15 kVA models can only be paralleled with an external AC transfer switch (see Victron's External Transfer Switch application manual).
Monitor and control from anywhere
Add a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX and your system is visible in the free VRM Portal from your phone, tablet, or laptop. Configure on-site with VEConfigure (via the MK3-USB interface) or the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth (via the VE.Bus Smart dongle).

Installation and sizing help
Wiring a MultiPlus-II isn't plug-and-play. Battery cable sizing, fusing, AC inlet rating, and bonding all need to match the variant you choose - and the larger 8/10/15 kVA models have specific parallel and transfer-switch requirements. Two free resources to start with:
- Victron Wiring Unlimited - the canonical reference for sizing the DC and AC sides of a Victron system.
- Our AWG to Metric Conversion chart.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this 230V unit on US 120/240V power?
Not directly - its output is 230V / 50Hz (European standard). To run on US power, configure the MultiPlus-II for 60Hz and pair it with a Victron Autotransformer also configured for 60Hz, which converts the 230V/60Hz output into US-standard 120/240V split phase. If you're buying new for a US system, the US MultiPlus-II 120V or MultiPlus-II 2x120V models are usually the simpler choice.
What's the difference between the MultiPlus and the MultiPlus-II?
The MultiPlus-II adds the MultiGrid's ESS features - built-in anti-islanding, an external current-sensor option, and a long list of grid-tie country approvals - on top of the standard MultiPlus inverter/charger functions. For a new ESS or grid-parallel install, the MultiPlus-II is the current generation.
How many AC inputs does it have?
One. The MultiPlus-II has a single AC input. If you need two AC inputs (shore plus generator) with automatic source selection, choose a Quattro instead.
Can the 8, 10, and 15 kVA models be paralleled?
Yes, but only with an external AC transfer switch - see Victron's MultiPlus-II External Transfer Switch application manual. The 3 kVA and 5 kVA models parallel directly over VE.Bus.
Is it lithium battery compatible?
Yes. The charger supports custom voltage and current profiles for LiFePO4 and other lithium chemistries, and it communicates with Victron's VE.Bus BMS over the communication port.
What warranty does it come with?
A 5-year limited warranty from Victron Energy, upgradable to 10 years for an additional 10% of the purchase price. Blue Marine handles the warranty claim process for you. Email support@bluemarine.com.
